WorldShare welcomes these objectives and much of the detailed target-setting and planning which has followed. The Millennium Goals have succeeded in bringing development issues, and the need of the poor to the forefront of top-level discussion, and have promoted much more co-operation.
Many of WorldShare's partnerships and projects are pursuing identical aims. This gives added validity to our activity.
Progress towards the goal is being regularly monitored. There have been some conspicuous successes. But sadly, many problems prove intractable, and some places are lagging well behind the general level of improvement. Improvement in much of Africa continues to be very limited, and that continent falls further and further behind the rest of the world.
For that reason WorldShare gives priority to partnerships in Africa, and is engaged there in income-generation, education, healthcare (including maternity and pediatric medicine), sustainable agriculture, etc. We are also engaged in the counselling and spiritual comfort of those whose lives have been touched by disaster and loss, misery and hopelessness.
We anticipate continued growth in our work to help achieve the Millennium Goals, particularly in Africa.
