Emergencies

Owing to the nature of our long term relationships with our ministry partners, when disasters like earthquakes, floods or famine strike, we often already have a way in to help those most affected.

Working with local Christian groups, we are able to bypass the bureaucracy of government, to focus help into the heart of hurting communities.

Haiti Earthquake - January 2010

At the time of the massive earthquake in the afternoon of Tuesday, 12th January 2010, ChildAid was supporting 45 children with Haitian Calvary International Ministries (HCIM). The classes had finished for the day at Calvary School, Anse-a-Galets on the island of La Gonave. The school was destroyed, but fortunately none of the children or staff were injured.

The international community rallied to help Haiti, but much of the aid was focussed on Port-au-Prince and the immediate vicinty. Very little help came to the forgotten communities on La Gonave.

Working with Pastor Luckner Stimphil and the HCIM team, we have been able provide food supplies, a water purification system and are supporting a number of schools as they bring a sense of normality back into the lives of Haiti's children and young people.
