Website Mega-Gift 2: Indonesia Literacy Centres

Suggested gift - £1,500

In Indonesia, more than 40 million people - about 20% of the population - are illiterate.

Poor villages typically have lower literacy rates. While people would love to be able to read, books prove too expensive for aspiring readers to own.

This mega-gift helps put literacy within reach of needy villagers! It will equip a complete literacy and community centre in an unreached village in Indonesia.

These centres feature, as their focal points, a complete library. Larger centres also offer a health clinic and accommodation for local Christian workers.

Many other activities arise from the literacy centres, as people get involved in coaching local soccer teams, and generally being all-round good neighbours.

Your literacy and community centre will serve as an accessible, comfortable alternative to the local mosque as a centre of social activity and learning. It will also help create natural contact points between the local Muslim and Christian communities in a region where overt evangelism is illegal and severely punished.

Your investment will provide literacy training, around two thousand books, and all the shelving and furniture needed to kit out the centre.
