Hope, grace and goodwill

Among the 600 children who attend Hope for Africa's Grace Christian School is Siyabonga Goodwill Mahlangu, and his siblings, Xolani, Sipho and Nongabula.

Their family - pictured here during a recent visit by WorldShare's Simon Garett - has already known tragedy, and needs your prayers.

Some time ago, the children’s father died from AIDS, which is rampant in the community where they live.

As well as the love and strength of their father, the family also lost his income and with it, their hopes for a better life.

Their mother, Anna, is HIV+ and often ill. Her immune system is depressed and even with the ARV drugs she receives she is in danger of infection all the time.

Siyabonga's family is just one of a number which Hope for Africa is helping regularly.

Siyabonga and Xolani are able to attend Grace Christian School thanks to the generosity of WorldShare child sponsors.

Sipho and Nongabula will be joining the sponsorship scheme soon and going to school.

Anna has a job at the school, preparing meals for the pupils and also for the boys who board at the school. This job gives the family the dignity of an income they have earned for themselves, and also allows Hope for Africa to keep an eye on her health and general wellbeing.

Through studying hard Siyabonga would like to become a civil engineer, while Xolani would like to study law. Not long ago these would have been impossible aspirations for someone from their background, but with Grace Christian School’s excellent academic record, it is now attainable.

Their sponsors are truly transforming the future for children like these.
