Ladha and the Good Samaritan

A little girl called Ladha lies in a hospital bed in Tibet. She has just had an operation to remove the bone cancer that was painfully destroying her finger.

People around Ladha are showing unconventional kindness, fetching her food, water and medicine.

Ladha looks up and smiles. “I will help others, too, after I grow up,” she says.

This scene is unusual as Ladha is a poor orphan, who has worked for her uncle as a shepherd since she was five years old.

She didn’t have money to pay for the surgery; she didn’t even have money to travel to the hospital and find out why her broken finger had never healed.

That all changed when someone from the local education department contacted one of our partner programmes in China.

Our partner decided to make a difference. They paid for Ladha’s transport and surgery - but did not stop there!

Volunteers stayed with Ladha, talking to her and helping her, even helping to push her into the operating room. On the day of the operation, Ladha had no relatives with her but the volunteers were there to comfort her.

The Muslim doctor who operated on Ladha was confused by this and said:

“I have seen other volunteers too. But usually they just paid the bill, took pictures and left. Why do you accompany her all the time?”

“We are not normal volunteers," was the reply. "We are from the Christian church.”

There were three Muslim patients in Ladha’s room, and they too asked the volunteers why they came to help. They shared the love of Jesus with them, too.

From that day, the atmosphere in that room changed. People started to help Ladha.

The education department has now invited our partners to provide medical help to children in three other schools.

Please thank God for this and for the chance to spread His love even more widely in towns and communities in Tibet.

Ladha has now been discharged from the hospital and is a happy, healthy young girl. Please pray that she will come to know and love Jesus for herself one day.

The love of Jesus changes things...

  • The teachers at Ladha's school told us recently that her story has  spread  throughout the whole region!
