MICOS delivers more than health in the Philippines

Luzviminda Pascual is a young Filipino mother, supporting two daughters alone since her husband walked out.

Her situation became increasingly difficult when long hours of hard, physical work damaged her back. Eventually, it became impossible for her to earn enough to keep her family.

Yet medical treatment in the Philippines requires lots of money for travel and treatment, neither of which were options for Luzviminda. She was in great pain, and became near-suicidal with worry.

Enter MICOS, WorldShare’s partner in the Philippines who organize medical teams. Luzviminda’s plight became known to MICOS, and she received. MICOS teams can offer a wide range of care, under the supervision of doctors, and at minimal prices which the poorest can afford.

Through this treatment Luzviminda’s back was treated and healed. But something else happened – she also heard about Jesus, and now she and her daughters regularly attend the Lalaan Evangelical Church. Her faith has brought her joy, and at church she can share with many others in similar circumstances.

MICOS teams treat thousands of people each year, for a very wide range of ailments.  None of the patients could afford treatment otherwise.

MICOS also provide education for over 300 needy children (many sponsored by WorldShare supporters), scattered amongst 44 hard-to-reach villages. This simple ministry provides a channel for helping the whole family.

Praise God for Luzviminda’s story, and please pray with us for the vital ministry of MICOS medical teams in the Philippines.
