War in Congo: Jeanne's story
“My name is Jeanne. We fled the war from Rumangabo. There were many bullets. We came on foot, the children suffered on the way.
"We came here to the camp, we are sleeping outside. It’s a problem to get water, there is no food, people are getting sick and there is no medicine. We ask for food, tarps (shelter), medicine. We also need water.
"Since the morning, my child went to find water, but he’s not returned yet. In our villages we farm our fields, we are able to eat and clothe ourselves, but here there is nothing.
"We are suffering. We need peace, we need to return to our homes, and live as we were before from our fields and small businesses.”
The above text is the translation of Jeanne's words in a video made on August 8th by HEAL Africa's Goma team, during their visit to the internally displaced people camp in Kanyaruchinya (12 kilometers from Goma).
