30,000 WOMEN AND GIRLS HAVE GONE MISSING WITHOUT TRACE
Each year, hundreds of women and girls as young as 12 are trafficked from Moldova to satisfy the sex trade in Russia, the Middle East, and especially Western Europe. In many cases their families have no idea what has happened to them.
Teenage prostitutes are Moldova’s biggest export. Some are lured by promises of a better life abroad. Some are kidnapped. Some are sold by their parents. A child can be bought for as little as $500.
Government and EU action has been limited and inadequate.
In the UK in 2012, thousands of enslaved Moldovan girls are brutalised and abused.
This has to stop now! WorldShare’s partner, Beginning of Life—a Moldovan NGO—is rescuing girls from being trafficked from Moldova. They are providing refuge, counselling, medical care, vocational training and careful reintegration into a life apart from the sex trade.
Beginning of Life also promotes awareness of the danger in Moldova, to protect and support the most vulnerable.
Beginning of Life actively helps the victims of the causes of trafficking—poverty (Moldova is by far Europe’s poorest country), family breakdown, domestic violence, alcoholism…
Every day, Beginning of Life is helping those who urgently need rescue. The need is huge.
