Ministry partners distribute relief at Libya border

Several of our partners are taking hold of a window of opportunity to minister to refugees fleeing the unrest in Libya.

One team of 12 medical personnel has been placed at the Libya-Egypt border.

A second team will actually enter Libya to distribute food and blankets and care for people in need. They are working with a large NGO to reach thousands of families, especially those in towns that are running out of food. They plan to be in country for one to two weeks. The team will be bringing 30 tons of food including rice, pasta, tomato paste, flour, sugar, lentils, beans, and milk for children.

These efforts are just the first initiative in a long-term plan. They are planning to send more supplies as well as more workers. They want to take advantage of every opportunity while the border is open.

This partner provides training and support for church-planting outreaches across the Middle East. Over the last six years they have trained more than 110 workers who today work among Iraqis, Kurds, Druze, Syrians, and other groups. WorldShare is helping this group send national missionaries into unreached areas of the Middle East.

The leader of this ministry is burdened to help during this crisis because of the heart and faith of their courageous workers serving in Libya. “These two couples are determined to stay because God has called them to Libya,” he said. They have so identified with the people that they said they would rather stay and lose their lives than leave the people.

Two other partners are serving refugees on the Tunisia-Libya border, ministering to families and cooking meals for them.

Another partner is ministering to prisoners who were released during the chaos and have nowhere to go. They are being given shelter until they can return to their home areas.

Please pray with us for God’s protection for each of these teams, for the local workers in Libya, and for new religious freedom throughout North Africa and the Middle East.
