The majority of schools in southern Sudan were destroyed during the war. As a result, literacy rates have plummeted. A whole generation of children in south Sudan has not had the opportunity to attend school.

In some areas, the government requires that all children go through Qur’anic kindergarten before being accepted into primary schools, which intentionally indoctrinates the children in Islam.

To protect their children, Africa Inland Church (AIC) has opened 11 schools throughout Sudan with Christian teachers that teach a biblically-based curriculum. The school premises are often also used as centres for adult education and other Christian training programmes.

Our goal this year is to build two new primary schools in Torit, Juba, or Kapoeta.
