Orphans in Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe orphan

In Zimbabwe there are thousands of orphans, most of them resulting from the catastrophic spread of AIDS. Some are destitute; some are being looked after by relatives who can’t cope. The situation is worst in rural areas.

These children are defenceless. They become virtual slaves, being made to do backbreaking work for long hours, just to get basic necessities. They are often physically and sexually abused.

These children have no future. Without a family to help them, and with no access to education, they have no chance of breaking out of their poverty.

This is a tragedy for them and for the country. A whole generation is growing  up hurt and resentful, with no stake in the country... with nothing to lose. This may store up untold trouble for Zimbabwe in coming years.

Hope for Africa Missions is the only lifeline for many of these children. Our partners will always seek to help them. Often, the first opportunity is to give a child the uniform and books needed to go to school. This will give opportunity for our partners to have regular contact with the children and the families who are looking after them; and hopefully also to exert a positive influence on those who are oppressing them.

Please help us to get this programme going. Providing for a child to go to school costs £180 per year. This amount, or a regular commitment of £15 per month, will enable us to help Zimbabwe's desperate children.
