Most African kids love sports, especially football. Since children in Mauritania have few opportunities to take part in social activities, Faith Christian Centre began a sports outreach programme in February 2007.
Since that time, "we have not been able to keep up with the throng of kids wanting to be involved," Brother Pat says. "Some children show up each morning knocking at the gate, asking when the next practice day is."
Being involved in sports improves the children's physical health and social lives and also allows them to develop a new talent. With prayer before each game and the every day witness of a Christian coach, it is our hope that many young people and their families will build relationships with FCC's team.
FCC's goal is to reach 500 children through basketball and soccer outreach. However, the potential is much greater. In the years ahead, they hope to incorporate more girls and expand to new communities.
