JKPS

In West Bengal, JKPS (an acronym translating ‘Jatiyo Kristiyo Prochar Samity’) ministers to the poor, plants churches and provides literacy and Bible teaching to children. JKPS workers also train future leaders for ministry among the region's unreached people groups.

West Bengal has a population of 70 million people, including 20 million Muslims. It’s an Indian state of great ethnic, social and economic diversity, presenting a multitude of opportunities to share and demonstrate Christ’s love.

In this context, the evangelism and church planting ministry of JKPS is very highly regarded. Based in Kolkata (Calcutta), workers minister to the poor, plant churches, provide literacy and Bible teaching to children and train leaders to reach people groups across West Bengal.

JKPS is finding new avenues opening for ministry among:-

Unreached peoples. JKPS’s Bible Training Institute prepares evangelists with ministry skills, and land is being sought where income-generation skills can be taught.

Muslims. As refugees from Bangladesh swell the population, JKPS has seen numerous Muslims follow Christ, and established 20 jamats (small churches).

Children. JKPS takes education where children have had no access to formal schooling. Staff are also involved in adult literacy work in nine regions.

Sex trade workers. The ministry shares the hope of Jesus with the state’s 70,000 sex workers, who are among the highest at-risk groups for HIV infection.
