In January 2007, Eurasian Christian Television (channel / frequency details above) went on air with what would become the first ever evangelical Christian television station to broadcast in Turkish 24 hours a day, 365 days per year.

One year previously, such broadcasts would not have been possible under Turkish law.

By 2012, ECTV had attracted record numbers of viewers and enquiries about the Christian faith

ECTV’s channel – ‘Kanal Hayat’ – generated almost instant responses from around Turkey. Many were from seekers whose hearts had been prepared for just such a moment to hear the good news of Jesus.

Other responses were more hostile. Certain people and groups wanting to protect Turkey’s traditions of secularism and Islam were very opposed to the Christian programmes that were now appearing. Broadcasts even had to be taken off air temporarily to protect ECTV staff and facilities.

But God’s hand was on ECTV.  Audience numbers increased, and viewers started writing in to ECTV to share how God had touched or transformed their lives.

ECTV has now gained real momentum. Programmes focus on:-

  • practical Christian living

  • features for women

  • children’s programmes

  • evangelism

  • Bible teaching.

Kanal Hayat’s website receives thousands of hits. ECTV staff have a comprehensive follow-up programme to respond to viewer’s messages and requests.

Satellite broadcasting is expensive to run, yet ECTV has already expanded its vision to touch surrounding Turkic-language countries. Broadcasts have commenced in Azeri (for Azerbaijan), and into Iran. Uzbek programming is also planned.

Other Central Asian countries are within the satellite footprint, and the production of programming in further regional languages is under consideration.

WorldShare was one of the founding partners assisting ECTV through financial, practical and prayer support.

TESTIMONIES

Many stories like this one have come in from Kanal Hayat viewers:-

“I’m a 23-year-old Muslim. By accident I found your channel. God’s forgiveness seems so big and wonderful. Not all the programmes fit my logic, but you are honest. The Christian faith is the right thing… you will win me and all my group.” (Hakkâri, Turkey)
